i have an auger type 18hp power curber for concrete or asphalt… i want to lay some concrete curbs but i’ve never used the machine… and i can’t find info on the proper mix… this thing propels itself by pushing the formed concrete out the slip form… i know it needs to be stiff but can i use rock in the mix or all sand grout type stiff mix? it’ll do asphalt so i think some rock would be ok… but… i don’t have a clue which has never stopped me before… i have a flat concrete surface to play on…figure a layer of sand on it will make an easy clean up… but any help on the mix would speed me up alot… just a toy i ain’t played with yet… only owned it 4-5 yrs 🙂
thanks

When we do street curbs, we order a "standard" mix. I'd guess it to be a min 4000 psi mix. Delivered at a 2" slump. Curb guy orders it so I can't be much more helpful.

Its a 3000 lb pea gravel mix. 5.1/2 sack poured at about a 2 inch slump. because of the dry mix, it break close to 8000 psi
That makes sense. I knew it was a rich mix. My guy however uses a gravel not pea gravel mix. Thanks for the info. I figured you would chime in sooner or later.John

stiff is what i was guessing i'd need... i couldn't find any info on the web... i did see one site where they ran a steel cable thru the machine and into the curb as it was formed... which seemed interesting... this will sit on top of an existing slab, i've broken out two 7x20ft sections that i want to curb around to form planters to break up the space... i was thinking of drilling into the existing slab an using some steel pins to lock it into place maybe every 18-24" looks like i could clear them with the machine if they stuck up 2"... i only have one form/shape which is a standard 8" curb... if my math is good i can get about 2.5ft per cubic ft of mix... or about 65ft of curb per yd? does that sound about right? and i have a total of 160ft of curb to run...
best i can tell from internet info... this thing will extrude about 10-15ft of curb per min... which is way faster than i can mix & move material in my 1/4yd - 1/3yd mixer
thanks for info & help....
