Architectural Shingles over Porch
Hi — Sorry if this is repeat entry…but it seems like I’m still stuck in the sandbox…and this has yet to make it’s way into the construction techniquesl discussion group…
I plan on re-shingling my roof with architectural shingles. My porch only has 3/4″ exposed T&G pine as sheathing and with the original asphalt shingles, I just used a shorter nail…but with the architectural shingles being heavier, I’m concerned that this shorter nail will not do the job….so the first question is whether you think I need to be concerned about this?..or just use the shorter nail w/ arch shingles?
If I need a longer nail, then I was thinking about putting 3/4″ plywood over the extisting sheathing before re-shingling…but the rafters are 2X8 on 24″ center..so concerned that plywood might bow, since I can’t nail it down between rafters…should I glue between rafters?….
Any better ideas to address this whole issue??..
Thanks…appreciate your help…..Stitch

7/8ths nails? or a skin of 1/2" ply and 1 and 1/8 roofers for the whole shebang.
