Are “16 shorts” considered “16s” in NY?
I know this is a very basic questions, but I read and re-read Residential Code of NYS several times. So, is silence acceptance? Or should I keep using “non-shorts” in the gun? Tables R602.3 does not say anything. Thoughts?

what are we talking about....gun nails ?...there're clipped & full heads, but what are "shorts"?
We shoot long rifles in the part of NY I'm in.
Here's a little pdf download you can use to determine alternate nailing schedules for the different fasteners you could use for any given job.
Keep in mind that the engineer of record will probably have to sign off on your particular fastening methods if the locale requires, such as designated seismic and wind loading areas.
In general, the boiler plate on drawings specifies common fasteners (8d, 10d, 16d, etc), while in practice, you buy a gun nail from your supplier that might be a "short" or a cooler, as in the cement coated type. 8d CC coolers are actually 2 3/8" long as opposed to true 8d commons which are 2 1/2". They are also a thinner shank diameter.
Enjoy the read.<G>
