The electrical hookup is only one part of the equation; when installing a hot tub, there are a number of key requirements to keep in mind.

What the heck is a tintest ceiling tile?
Maybe it's a Canadian term? No idea if I'm spelling it right. Armstrong still make similar tiles. http://www.armstrong.com/resclgam/na/ceilings/en/us/tiles.asp?shapeId=2Tintest is a fibrous product. Looks sort of like chewed up paper fibers. I've seen it ceiling tiles, as 4x8 sheets, tar-faced sheets as sheathing. Used to make archery targets too.Adam

Is "tin test" a local term? Never heard head anyone call it cellulose board or anything like that. I've heard "black joe" for the tar faced stuff.Adam
I've never heard that term either, but what he was describing of other stuff similar in nature is all cellulose.Only way he could be sure I suppose is to have it tested, but it seems like the feds were having asbestos taken out of products for living spaces in the sixties, and this was from the seventies i think he said.

Hi Piffin,Google search brings up references to tin test as products I mentioned, but not a lot of them. Must of been a regional term. Now I'm curious what the actual term is. Do they sell 4x8 sheets of cellulose? I'll see what else Mr. Google can tell me.Adam

there was still asbestos in acoustical texture and some drywall compounds till the mid 70'sI know some acoustical tile contained asbestos, not sure when that ended

gotchanever heard that name
tentest out here. Never heard of asbestos being in it though.
Tentest says another Canuk. Tin-test/tentest, maybe it's a Canadian term?Adam
I'd be concerned about any tile installed prior to about 1978, especially about those from the 60s. If you can find a manufacturer and style name on the back of a piece you MIGHT be able to contact the mfgr for information, but you'll probably have to have them tested if you want to be sure.
I'm just taking off the outside row along two walls, so I can insulate at the rimjoist. Fortunately, the tiles are oriented so I only need to remove one staple per tile. I've taken down a couple and they are staying in one piece. No manufacture name on the few I've pulled down.Adam

You should practice reasonably good "housekeeping" until you know for sure. Avoid creating dust, damp mop the floors and other surfaces after working, etc. And consider wearing a HEPA filter mask.

The 1978 timeline refers to lead, which if the tile is painted could be an issueasbestos wasn't officially banned until the 80's and as i mentioned above I was using construction products that contained asbestos well into the 70's

I was using free asbestos fibre on commercial work in the seventies, but I also recall when I was a kid in the sixties, people complaining that the govt was making them take asbestos out of flooring products so we ended up with a cheaper floor tile on our kitchen...I know, not a very professional citation, but that is where my thinking of the dates came from.
