Our neighborhood is having the asphalt roads coated and repaired. The company is also doing individual driveways. They are using a “cold” coating at .20/sq.ft. for the driveways including crack repair. I always thought that the coatings that were applied hot were better. Is the cold material the same stuff available at building centers for “rolling” on? We live in a mountain snow area. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Ray, the coating is mostly color...that makes things appear nicer to the eye....Cold is fine.
I coat tennis courts...
near the stream,
aj
By the way...our coatings our acrylic based and last for up to ten years...Our Acrylic coatings cost us twice as much as oil based. I would never use an oil base on a tennis court.
*AJ-Thanks for the info. I'm sure you don't have oil spots on the courts. Does acrylic adhere in that case? It sounds like buying a driveway product at Lowes/Home Depot is just as effective has hiring it out.
*AJack, are you by chance using Sealmasters products? If so, do you like their products? Quality? I have been reviewing their info sheets and I am thinking about using their cold patch and one of their driveway sealers.Anybody else familiar with Sealmaster products? Thanks,Eug
*Sealmaster is a huge company....I would think all their products are what they say...Just remember....You get what you pay for...For a driveway though...It all works fine...the oil with no sand is real slippery for a few weeks...Sand added will fill grain...and make a surface antislip....Oil spots need to be primed with proper primer before coating with acryilic coatings...So does concrete.near the coating stream,ajMany companies make equivalent coatings...The ingredients are similar industry wide...Do to shipping...Usually there is a coating company mixing batches in every area of the country...There are many names...
