i’m about to start framing my woodworking shop in two weeks and i can’t decide if i want metal or asphalt roof. i live in town and everyone around me has asphalt. will the metal be to loud? i have large trees if a limb falls will the metal be quicker to get damaged? if i go with metal is 29 gauge ok? one thing metal is faster to install. please help me decide i keep going back and forth on this.

I would sasy your shaper, router and joiner will be louder than a metal roof. LOL If you choose a colour the impact shouldn't be hard on the neighborhood. Plain galvanized is a blinder. If you are doing it over a full deck surface, eg. plywood, you are ok with 29 ga. but if using straps or purlins, you should have 26ga. This varies with wind loads, pitch, and snow loads required. A falling limb can damage either. Too many thousands of variables in that scenario to answeer the question. generally - metal is more expensive initially than asphalt but cost per sq ft per annum is better when considering life expectancy.
