Hello!
I am generally on the Gatherings (Sewing) forums but I had a building question and I hope that since it isn’t about home building it is ok to ask on this forum.
I”ve got a small cabinet – white laminate – one door – 2 shelves inside (adjustable) and I was able to locate a kit for another one but I want it to be the reverse of the one that I’ve got so that when I place them side by side the doors will both open from the center.
If I assemble it the way it is supposed to be, both open from the same side (looking weird).
So – does the entire thing need to be built backwards and upside down, switching the top for the bottom? I’m able to visualize it but in an attempt to save time, I thought that someone might’ve already done something similar and will be able to tell me how. And unfortunately it has to be done using the existing pre-drilled holes.
Thanks!
Susan

depends on your door hardware. Usually those kits just require a few extra holes drilled for the hinges to attach on the opposite side.
Got a picture or PDF from the maker on the assembly?
I wasn't going to buy it until I knew that I'd be able to reverse the door.

Ah, yes: "Door can be attached to open from left or right."

Sorry - I didn't see that information there - I only was looking to see where (if) it was being sold.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh - ok! I still feel like an idiot!
It took me a while but I drew the door on an index card and flipped it around until I saw how it's possible even though the door only has the holes on one side.

If I remember right, there is/are holes from the back of the door for the knob/pull..BUT it doesn't go all the way through the wrap/melamine/vinyl front cover. So you have a choice , top or bottom and which way ya flip the door. Then you have a small white plastic cap to fill the unused hole(s).

The way this one looks the holes are drilled all the way through for the handle. The place where there is a choice for placement is inside the frame - the door is attached at the top and bottom and I see little caps on the side that they didn't use.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just remember that if you mount these side by side that the doors will bang into each other. be sure to leave a little room in between. What kind of bike do you ride?
The doors are set into the frame so they won't hit anything else. I need to check the specs to see if there is supposed to be a magnet that whoever built this one didn't install - the door won't stay closed.
I ride a Saint Tropez Mixte - I bought it in 1986 new and despite riding almost every day on NY city streets it still rides great. Looks like a disaster, though, but I don't want it to look too desirable.

You know, they can take away your man card for reading the instructions.

You woulda held onto it if you'd responded "Duh, I guess, if I have to."

Can't quite tell from the picture. It looks like maybe the door is hinged on pins at the top and bottom. If the bottom is finished like the top (unlikely) you'd be able to just turn the assembled unit upside down and drill new holes for the handle, to put it in the correct relative position. If the bottom isn't finished the same then you'd probably have to drill new hinge pin holes.

Yep, look for the holes like the others are saying. The Door hinges on those are usually equally spaced so the door is reversible w/out any mods.
Flipping the L & R sides might be doable as well if the one side isn't already drilled.
What you would probably need to do it assemble the cabinet the way the instructions tell you, and then put the hinges on the opposite side. There are probably no pre-drilled holes over there, so you would need to drill the appropriate holes.
Most likely, you won't be able to flip parts around unless the kit is advertised as being able to open the door in either direction.
But it's hard to say without seeing it.
