I have an upcoming job where I need to attach a large quantity of exterior cedar trim to steel studs. There is denshield sheathing on top of the steel studs. What’s the best way to quickly do this? I have found stainless steel trim head self tapping screws, but is there a quicker way? Does anyone know of any pneumatically driven stainless nails out there specifically made for attachment to steel? Or are there any other quicker methods? Thanks for the input.

I've not found a quicker/easier way than screws in the application you describe. From my experience (drywall to steel studs), a fine-thread drywall screw, driven by a 0-2,500 rpm drywall gun works great. Used construction adhesive to minimize screws.
What are you building; got any pics?

Thanks for the reply. This project is my first foray into the commerical construction world. We are the exterior trim subcontractors on a large banquet hall being attached to an 18th century castle here in Connecticut. The exterior trim is quite extensive in that it has to match the old style, which is somewhat tudor with half timbering and arched gables. I'll keep you up to date on the pics once we near completion.
from the sound of the project, you might just consider documenting the whole build in the form of an article for fine homebuilding. Incidentally, your original idea of using trim screws is probably the way to go. Used them to trim out a basement with wide colonial pine to steel studs; those, you send home slowly or they'll strip out..............
