I’m bidding a 24’x24′ addition onto the rear of a house with brick veneer siding. The GC doesn’t want to remove the brick from the back wall, he wants to fir it out with 2x2s for sheetrock. That’s fine I suppose, but how should I attach the perpendicular walls to the brick?
Use PT end stud and glue & shoot it w/ a powder actuated nailer?
I would prefer to remove the brick… but am curious as to whether it’s absolutely necessary.

We would sawcut the veneer and demo it. Then it leaves a great edge for a caulk joint. Fastening thru or into the veneer is not a good idea, IMO, unless you want lots of relative movement at that joint.
Let me guess - the new siding material will be......vinyl, right? J channel should hide the cut. Or if you use brick veneer on the new you can lap the joint and bury the cut.

*Thanks Rob,It seems to me too that it would be a weak joint. Especially where Tornados are fairly common (one year ago this week). The new siding will be brick.Dan
*Cool - It will oook nice when your done. The new brick will cover the sawcut. It always irks me when a yellow or pink vinyl addition is stuck on the side of a brick house!-Rob
*There is a little gable above the entry, and I asked what he wanted to use as it wasn't specified in the drawing. He said "Anything but vinyl. Some kind of wood." I was happy to hear that.
