Hello everyone,
I am building a bannister around a 4×3 foot attic hole. Would like to use LJ Smith over-the-post parts to match the rest of the house. Any suggestions on how to build a gate between 2 newel posts? I realize that post-to-post parts may be necessary. Is there a type of hinge or other hardware that would allow the door to swing 180 degrees so that the gate “folds” back upon itself.
Thanks, Eric

I think there are hinges like are used on "saloon doors" that aloow that--but they also allow opening in both directions. But I'm sure there are hinges that allow full 180 degree opening (and even more). Woodworkers' catalogs often have such things. Maybe the Knots forum (for woodworkers) would have people who could give you more info.
Edit: Woodcraft and Rocklers are good sources for woodworking hardware and may have the hinges you need. I think you can get their web sites by just putting "www." before their name and ".com" after. Woodcraft has the saloon door type hinges.
