I am a woodworker turning my 100 year old shed into a workshop. I dont want columns in the way but a wide open space. An architect friend told me about hanging the attic floor from a triangle that follows the roof line and carries the floor from a steel rod hung from the apex of the triangle. It sounds good but I can’t find any illustrations or examples of it in my reference books. Does anyone know of web sites or sources (i.e; issues of FW) where I might flesh out my understanding of this technique?

why don't you have your architect give you a sketch...
it'll propbably need engineering if you have code considerations...
