Hello Everyone!
Unfortunately it has been a long time since I last visited this site and more specifically this forum but I must say after reading a few of the posts its good to be back.
For those who can’t remember me or were not members on this forum a year and half ago when I made my first post “Carpentry as a Career” I thought I’d just give a quick history of what has happened since then.
As suggested by many people on this forum I am now currently enrolled in an Applied Degree in Construction Management and I am loving it. At the end of 4 years time I will have a University Degree in Business Management and well as a College Diploma in Construction Engineering Technology. On top of that at the end of my schooling I am able to join the Ontario Federation of Quantity Surveyors. Because of the advice of so many on this forum I now how seemingly endless options to pursure my career when the time comes and I just wanted to give my proper thanks.
I am currently in school full time but I have however found some part time work building decks before the winter hits so I am also busy with that.
I just wanted to get reacquainted with some of you as I will be on this forum a lot this year to pose questions pretaining to my school program. I hope that the summer months were good to you all.
Thanks again to everyone for their continued help and support.
BRIAN

Brian,
Welcome home. Was wondering what direction you'd take, but I had a feeling you'd take the school advice. Great decission!
Currently I'm employing an archy student who's 22 and knows close to nothing,
three years of archy school and he hardley knows what a hammer is.
Just shows to go you that you also need lots of practical experiance as well as school......Told him that some days I want him to pay me to teach him..lol.
Feels good though to help a newbe out....us old timers need to pass on the lil' tricks of the trades.
Good luck bro and stay around here. We all have a lot to learn from each other old and young.
Be well

If the price is right you can have a 25 y/o ex college student who does know which of end of the hammer to use, though not much else ;)
Piffin, and all..
You can only call me a college boy for 97 more days, I started a personal count-down a few days ago when it was 100, I decided to keep it up here too...

Neil,
97 daze brings us into ski season round these parts and I'm guessin' a midwesterner from Lawrence can only skateboard.....lol.
As I told you once before, my best friends, were originally from Lawrence and now run a pretty famous private school in NYC. They said if you ever visit they'd love to meet you. Theyre 60 something and classical musicians. Ben played first cello for the Huston Symphony Orchrastra for years.
If ya don't mind workin' in the cold than you have a gig here.
The way things are going it seems I may not get started bangin' nails till next month. figures!
Who cares though.....as long as we're all healthy and happy bring the weather on.
Tipi and a roaring fire after work and bustin' suds (beer).
Let me know.......I also have another offer from a BT'er that doesnt wanna be identified (who would, wanting to work for/with me...lol).
Be well Neil 4 and you better have a good grade average....lol

Nobody here'll be misunderestimatin ya no more!Any jackass can kick down a barn, but it takes a carpenter to build one.
Good luck with the construction management degree, I found out about it a little to late, but I'm thinking of either going back for it, or getting a masters in it, which I recently found out is offered near me.
Good luck, keep us posted, and stick around, it was starting to feel a little like an old folks home around here....

Mr. short timer... KID... AAAWWWW never mind.
Who ever invented work didn't know how to fish....
Welcome back, kid. Now I get to tell the wife someone actually fell for something I told them :-)
Study hard, get good grades, and come out still swinging a hammer. Heck of a life, ain't it? At least you'll be a well paid hammer.

Hi Freefall,
I remember that thread you started very well. Good luck with the rest of your program!
