I am planing on installing passage and privacy locksets in a house. I have a complete set of both Baldwin and Pegasus brand hardware (don’t ask – just one of those situations#. Both brands are solid brass and appear similar. I started to install the Baldwin and noticed that some of the parts #latch plate) are pressed sheet metal while looking at the Pegasus it is all heavy gage sheet brass.
I stopped and dropped back to think this over. Am I focused on a perceived notion of quality or is the Baldwin really that much better.
I appreciate your comments

Something has happened to Baldwin. Not only is the product now made in China, but they don't seem to have any quality control. Replaced an exterior lockset 4 times in a one year period, client finally said, enough is enough. Same problem each time, keyed section would just keep
spinning. Replaced with identical looking Schlage. NO problems.
Baldwin has a couple of lines. Their builder's grade, which they now call the Image Collection, is made in China, very disappointing. It is even carried at some Home Depots. I think they are trying to compete with Emtek and similar. Haven't heard of Pegasus.
I believe their high end stuff is still made domestically, but is much more expensive as you can imagine. I have the Images in my home, no problems to date.
