I recently came across some really nice bamboo in 2″, 3″, and 4″ widths. I would like to make a coffee table but I’m having trouble finding information on bamboo furniture-making techniques. Does anybody know any secrets of bamboo joinery, or helpful books?

There are some folks over there that have a firm grasps of stuff like this.
Whats Knots?
That's the Fine Woodworking forum. Just click on the workd Knots that appears at the top of this page, under Fine Woodworking.

I've done a bit of work with bamboo, mostly giant timber, but not furniture.
Wear gloves and get tools specifically designed for bamboo. It's very hard on cutting edges. Best thing for cutting bamboo is the Japanese Gyokucho brand saw with the bamboo "take" blade. May be hard to get your hands on.
For drilling, traditional craftsmen use a "mouse tooth" gimlet--in other words the teeth on the bit are splayed out--as this prevents splitting.
