I have a Foremost Pressure balance valve installed in our shower. I have replaced the valve at least three times in the last 5 years. The first two valves had a rubber diaphragm in the middle of the valve that failed…rubber was torn. The third replacement they sent was of a new design with full brass body and apparently a mechanical balance valve. I was delighted they had beefed up the design but the brass design has always been noisy, every time a faucet, toilet, dishwasher in the house is turned off it sounds as though that balance valve slams to one side and creates a loud mechanical knock which seems to have gotten louder over time….I’m thinking it may have had a rubber bumper on it that has been flattened (haven’t had it apart recently). Even if a water source is gently shut off you can hear the valve oscillating back and forth for a second or two. (like a ball in a spray can rolling back and forth)
Has anyone else experienced this kind of problem? Does anyone have a solution? I have read about “water hammer” but I’m quite certain that’s not what this is. If I shut the valve off using the isolation valves the noise is gone.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Hey, what you do in the privacy of your own home is your business, but do you really want your mother reading about you banging a pressure balance valve?
happy?
