Please, I’d like to know the difference between barrel type concrete mixer and a mortar mixer, and where could I find information related with the last one.
Thanks a lot.

mortar mixer has paddle in it that neads the mortar like dough. scapping the sides clean with each pass. mortar mixer, the inside moves. barrel mixer the outside moves
brownbagg, Since this has been brought up I would like to know why they are different.
I have known one is used for on type cementitious product and the other for another, but have never had it explained to me the "Why" of it all. I would like to understand the reasons if you or anyone else can explain it to me
Like bb said, the mortar is better mixed if kneaded like dough. The paddles in a mortar mixer can be damaged by the aggregate in concrete. Mortar can be mixed in a concrete mixer, but not as efficiently.http://grantlogan.net/
mortar is usually mix real dry no slump, no big rock, just sand and cement, sand will lump together when it geta a liitle damp. has to be broken upconcrete mixed a little wetteri do live in Alabama, so my advice might be worthless
the question is what kind of work are you trying to do , i owned both kinds of mixers and after getting the mortar mixer i eventually sold the concrete mixer and now buy my concrete delivered
i have and use both.... sometimes everyday
both have been described... mortar mixer has replaceable wippers that "wipe the edges of the drum... u are only using sand, lime, portand, and water for mortar... if you try to mix concrete which is sand, rock, portland & water in the mortar mixer the rock can damage the wipers or even wedge in and lock it up... mortar is like make'n batter
concrete tumbles... inside the drum there are blades but they don't mix they slice as the mix falls from the top in rotation... i often mix a very dry mix that would just lock up a mortar mixer... like it has been stated you can mix motar in a concrete mixer with ok results... you'll get alot of splash out and alot of entraped air... but still better than your hand around a hoe handle
on my way to fabricate a steel pouring funnel for my bobcat bucket so that i can dump my very dry concrete mix from my mixer to my bobcat to be dumped into my curb machine... it was that or use a ramp to get up high enough to hand dump into the curb machine hopper....
p
Have you used your curb machine yet, or is this the maiden voyage?http://grantlogan.net/
just got in from welding up a funnel chute type deal that attaches to the bucket of my bobcat so that i can dump the concrete mix from the mixer into this "chute/funnel" and then dump it into the curb machine... the curb machines hopper is at a height that i'd have to have a ramp to dump into it or use buckets... if my math is correct i can get about 10ft of curb out of one batch... the fabricated funnel chute will also let me move the sand & rock from the piles to the mixer in one move... i had the steel so the 3hr fab time might be time well spent... i have 3 days with no rain forcast so i might get to run some curb in the morning... i did tune, grease & service the curber so i should be good to go... no trial runs just line her up and go...

no pictures huh dude
