I am going to start trimming out my house and don’t know how much space to leave between baseboard and sub floor ? Is there a definitive answer or does it vary with carpet choice??

I use 1/2" but it's best to ask your carpet man. They've all got different opinions.
*I talked to the carpet guy before I started trimming out a house & he said the same thing. Ask the carpet guy, they all have different opinions. I saw a house that had to be trimmed out 3 times becuase the trimmer left the base too high.1.Left it up 1" (WAY too high)2.Removed the base to lower it & didnt remove the caulking from the top. Damaged the drywall to much. So off it came again!3.Put 6" base down to cover the damaged drywall. Nice little bonus for the home owner. Standard for that model was 4" basePersonally I use a piece of the door casing as a space. ITs about 3/8 thick. The carpet guys I;ve talked to have told me that 1/4-1/2 is usual. Never more then 1/2" up from the sub-floor.God Bless Ya!Ted Rowell
*3/8" is standard.I use a strip of 3/8" plywood as a spacer. I lay it down on the floor, set the baseboard on top of it, and nail the baseboard in place. Then I remove the plywood shim and move on to another piece.James DuHamel
*Butt end of a shim. Just about 3/8th. Jeff
