Hello, I just finished the basement article in the latest issue of FHB, and I have a question. When finishing a walk-out type basement, where at least one wall is “above grade”, is the insulating system described in the article recommended? It seems as though the wall that is above grade has the ability to dry differently than the walls that are actually underground. Would it be better to insulate some walls differently than others?
Thanks
Matt

No, I'd insulate them the same way. In fact, I think that the insulation method described in my article would very well on above-grade masonry walls.

I agree. Nice article Andy. BTW did you notice that the Building Science article on basement insulation systems has been pulled for revision?http://www.buildingscience.com/resources/foundations/basement_insulation_systems.pdf

This issue is not yet out on news stands here. What insulation methods did they use?
