Basement Bathroom Plumbing Question…
I’m installing a half bathroom in a basement and I was planning on using a Saniflo toilet in which a macerating pump / tank are above ground which is sometimes located directly behind the toilet or behind a partition wall directly behind the toilet. (http://www.saniflo.com/SANIBEST.aspx)
I have used this system before and have never had any problems. This time around, the pump and tank will be behind a partition wall within 18” of the toilet, so far I’m within the manufactures specs.
Usually, the sanitation line comes out of the macerating tank, goes immediately vertical and then horizontal. The manufacturer states that the vertical lift must precede any horizontal run and that the maximum horizontal run if necessary before going vertical can’t exceed 12”, basically just to clear the toilet tank if necessary.
My problem, the half bath is below a first floor stair landing. I have 8’ ceiling clearance for the bathroom but I can’t go directly vertical out of the macerating tank. I have to go about 24” horizontal and then vertical about 7.5’ to the main horizontal waste line.
Has anyone had this same problem? Has anyone used this Saniflo system and had to go 24” horizontally before going vertical? Any advice? Will the macerating pump work efficiently with the 24″ horizontal before the vertical. The toilet location is pretty much locked in place due to need to conceal the tank behind the partition wall.
Thanks for the help.

My only suggestion is they don't want you to do it so don't or you are going to be dealing with a really sh tty problem down the line. You could always put in a sealed sump pit and a trash pump. You can locate this pit anywhere but is mostly put in very close to the exit point of your normal plumbing. The you run a normally sloped pvc waste line into the pit from your bathroom. Yes you will have to cut out some concrete but its a pretty bullet proof solution.

I would call the manufacturer with this problem and give them the complete plan. They may be able to find some way for you to use the system.
There is another system which use 6" deep tank that toilet sits on. Since you have 8 foot head clearance, this should work. I think this works with regular drain pipes without too much restriction. Sorry I forgot the name but search should find it. Good luck.
