I’m building a house in a town that follows the 2009 IRC.The house will have a full walkout basement and I’m using 14″ I-Joists for the 1st floor and plan to finish the basement in the future. My preference would be to install a suspended ceiling when I do finish the basement so I can maintain access to my utilities. Does the code require me to install gypsum panels on the basement ceiling as a fireblock to cover the I-joists?
