I understand code requirement for a basement egress window to be minimums of 24″ tall, 20″ wide, 5.7 sq. ft., and 44″ above floor level. Mine meets all requirements except hieght above floor level…it is 53″. Besides lowering the sill (requiring cutting into concrete foundation) any suggestions for bringing to code?

Code MIGHT permit a permanent step to be installed below the window. Could perhaps be disguised with a day bed or some such.
