Two questions:
I had a $%^&* flood in the basement. The 35 year old house sits on top of a steep slope, drainage is passive (no pump). There is an extensive drainage system under the foundation – hexagonal clay tiles. There are two floor drains. No clean-outs anywhere. Tried to snake through the floor drains and just hit gravel. Rented a jack hammer and cut a hole for a sump pump at the lowest floor drain. Found the drain tile and snaked all the way out to daylight and all is fine. Pump is now the backup system.
Question 1: the floor drain was not connected to anything, just sitting there embedded in concrete. Is this normal?
Question 2: I’d like to put in a clean-out. Can’t quite figure out how to connect a new clean-out to the 5″ hexagonal drain pipe. Any suggestions?
many thanks in advance!
