hello, thanx in advance. it says new user but I was on in the past. I have already searched. I am finishing another basement and my buddy wants the floor warmer. I want to throw down rigid pink insulation with mastic then plywood with mastic. 1 1/2″total. this is a foot trafic only situation. carpet will be installed on top. I would like 1″ pink plus 1/2″ cdx but will go 3/4″ ea. if needbe. all I’ll be saving is the sleepers time money. all the time at work i see the conc. boys puttin 2″ of creat on 2″ of pink with wirsbo in it. thankx again brian this is the message as posted on knots where my searches yeilded knota. since searching here i found that floating the cdx with biscuits seems to be the thing. i am hoping someone has done this years ago and can tell me how it is holding up and if i need to use 3/4″ (as i would also like more spring to the floor) thanx again again

You might want to look into some of the purpose-made basement floor panels. They include standoffs, insulation and sheathing in interlocking panels (something like 2x2 or 3x3). Probably more expensive (never priced them out), but should be quicker and better "integrated".
About 1-2 years ago FWW did an issue one ww shops. One of them included such a floor. Don't remember the details.
I did one about 10 years ago.
For the plywood you either want to use T&G plywood or two layers. Otherwise you can get concentrated loads near edges and that can break down the foam.
I used tapcons to hold the plywood and foam. Than attched a 2nd layer with short screws to the first for vinyl time underlayment.
.
A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
thank you. thats what I wanted to hear . ill go t&g with one runner on the long seam instead of insul. il just tape it right in?.. next big one will get bicuits on the short edge. (my house) i think ive fired enough live ammo in the name of "in case gravity stops working"
thankx
