I’m about to add heat to my basement workshop and am debating if it is worthwhile to put a floor over the concrete slab prior to doing so. The rest of the room (500sq. ft.) is finished, insulated, etc., but I left the floors bare for convenience and height preservation reasons. Now that I’ve determined I do need heat, I’m thinking of adding a floor but don’t want to do so if it it’s not going to help with keeping the space warm.
So, what can I expect in terms of R Value and how do I interpret that in terms of degrees, heat needs, costs, etc. I’m not expecting much in terms of R Value but am thinking it to heat up faster than the concrete would.
I live in N.E. and am a weekend woodworker so I expect to keep the room at 60 degrees or so and crank it up higher when I’m actually down there.
Thanks for the input.
