I am finishing our basement and have used 1″ extruded polystyrene 4×8 panels glued to a block wall and have placed 2×4 walls against this. I am getting conflicting advice on the placement of a moisture barrier. I was under the impression that I would place plastic between the drywall and the studs after filling them with unfaced insulation. However the lumberyard I am dealing with said that the 1″ panels glued to the block work as a moisture barrier and I should not need any plastic between the drywall & studs as long as I use unfaced insulation. Any advice would be appreciated.

Assuming the basement is in a building that has had a year or so to cure, I put 2" polysterene (avalable at the homecenters) on the concrete walls, and I taped the seams with housewrap tape (like you would use for Tyvek, Typar etc. If you do it this way, it allows the walls to "breathe".
A vapor barrier will hold moisture in the walls and could cause problems in the framing ie mold eventually.
