Hello to all,
What options would you recomend for basement lighting? Can can light be used effectively? I figure I’d like to have a spot for the kids to play.
Thanks KaiserRoo

Have used 2x2 troffers and cans in drop ceiling. With thought toward switching-gives you low light, mood light (dimmers on the cans) and full light-cleanup and play.
Add some table lamps/sconces and you've got it covered.

Basements, where ceilings are typically lower, is the only place I use can lighting.

We mostly use recessed lighting with accent lighting depending on layout/room design.
Cans plus 2 x 2 troffers work well. Switched seperately. However, you gotta lay out your ceiling tile pattern first before your locate those lights. That pattern has to be compatible with the usage areas you have factored in.
