Hi, I hope someone will be kind enough to respond to my inquiry, it is made in all seriousness!
I have never built anything and would like some simple plan to make a small coop to house specifically guinea hens and probably chickens.
If anyone can direct me to the right info, I’d be very grateful!
My husband Goline and I live in the Catskills on Belleayre mountain and are about to start raising alpacas. We have four alpacas and one llama. I’d like to get guinea fowl to help with the control of bugs.
Go is busy with the fencing and I’d like to try my hand at the coop.
Hope to hear from someone soon! Thanks all!
Ms. Freddi

Freddi,
Your county agent should have some USDA plans.

This is a forum that might have some more knowledge about the needs of fowl.

everybody has their foul needs, don't they?no turn left unstoned
Thanks for the input!
One caution, you may already know about guinea fowl. You need to buy hatchlings. Adult guinea fowl do not imprint to thier new homes very well. Most of the adults just wonder off in search of food, even though you may be feeding meal twice a day. An expensive lesson to learn after purchasing adult fowls. Guinea fowl are also excellent "watch" dogs. They make so much noise when anything approaches, that your coop will be needed at night, just so you can get some sleep.
Thanks for the reply, Dave. I have done some research on guinea fowl and did learn about the "training" period.
So, did you ever build that chicken coop?
I spruced up an old, ratty shed last summer using some odds and ends of surplus bldg. materials, got some chicks through the mail from McMurrays Hatchery and now my 9 Speckled Sussex hens have got me awash in eggs!
