Has anyone purchase a “gooseneck” style lavatory faucet, where the faucet/spout is rather high rather than close to the basin? If so, does the spout get in the way of your head, face, or hands when you’re washing your face?
We love the look and style of a Herbeau brand bridge faucet with cross handles (Rohl makes a similar bridge faucet) but I am concerned about the spout getting in the way of everyday face washing! The spout does swivel out of the way, but then the water stream is to one side of the basin.
I’m just trying to be practical. Any comments/pros and cons from anyone that has something like that in their bathroom?

The only time I advise a customer to change style of spout (faucet) is when the basin is too narrow in depth. Narrow will be a problem if the spout sticks out into the basin too far. Maybe not so much with face washing, but nothing looks worse than toothpaste spit on the spout. What are the sink dimensions and how far does that faucet spout I never heard of project from center?

if the faucet is located high above the sink you'll want to increase the diameter of the sink accordingly if you want to avoid spashing water on the counter.
Having a tall stream of water is very nice, but the tendency is to use the water up near where it comes out of the tap and you end up with a very wet counter that needs constant mopping up (experience).
If you can get a really large sink you can catch most of it, or keep a sponge handy to mop up frequently (with experience, you'll find it best to use the water as far down in the sink as possible, to minimize the splashing, but since the water has now fallen a long way it will have more 'splash energy' and still get all over.

To Calvin and Norm,
We are planning to use the average sized 17" x 14" undermount sink (Toto brand or Kohler brand), under a marble vanity top. I believe the spout projects about 6" - definitly no less than that. I must admit I forgot to measure that as the store was closing, though I measured every other spouts' projection in the store that day!
So will my sink dimensions handle that spout?
I'll check mine tonight and reply tomorrow morning.

We recently installed a Delta victorian style gooseneck (don't remember style 'name') in our bathroom and love it. It is such a pleasure not to bang your knuckles on the back of the sink every time you wash your hands. And to be able to turn on the sink with an elbow instead of a dirt, oil, or otherwise encrusted hand. Not much problem with banging face or spitting toothpaste, but I guess it depends on how deep you stuff your face into the sink and how good your spittin' aim is. If I were doing it from scratch rather than just replacing an old faucet with hard to find parts, I would prefer a wider basin to go with the faucet, but it took about one washing to adjust to it.
