great-grandma is not able to get into the tub/shower without great effort. the existing unit measures from inside to edge approx. 30″ deep and 58″ inches long inside to inside. tub is cast-iromn.
i was considering using a product from tubcut (tubcut.com). its a cap that you insert after cutting a walk-through passage in the existing unit.
i liked this option because of its simplicty for solving problem quickly, reasonalbe cost, and because the local plumbing supply told me they can’t order anything close in terms of a new unit with said dimensions ( I don’t want to move bedroom/closet walls)
house was built in the 1950’s. no access from outside (brick) so it would have to be a two-piece unit.
the question: anyone used this product? anything similar? any good ideas?? copper cap with a butt*$#@ of caulk? not really, but… the reality is we may end up with the house and my wife will want to redo the bath at that time. great grandma has no desire for a full remodel at this stage in life. so… function over form
thx

Greetings deafbob, and Welcome to Breaktime.
http://www.tubcut.com/ is the link to what you are inquiring and must admit that prior to your post I'd personally never heard of the product.
Does make one wonder what is used to cut cast iron efficiently enough to provide a straight surface for the application of the seamless step through?
This post, in response to your question, will bump the thread through the 'recent discussion' listing again which will increase it's viewing.
