What is a good color for a 1915 bathroom with white tiled walls and black trim tiles. The ceramic floor is black and white mosaic tile. The room has one window but does not receive a lot of light due to shade from the house next door. The hallway leading to the bath is Benjamin Moore’s Hawthorne yellow. This is rental property that is normally rented to women who are particular about decor.
Thanks,
Stan

The first thing that comes to my mind is a soothing shade of green.
stan: since it is a bathroom and will be used mostly by women (your target home renter),why not paint it a color that flatters the face. Most bathroom mirrors are used to style hair and apply makeup: a pale peach or pale pink flatter most complexions!
Where is this wonderful house located and does it have all original fixtures?

The property is located in Louisville, Ky in the Highlands neighborhood. It is a 3 story brick building with some craftsman and victorian features. It has inlaid hardwood floors and detailed moldings throughout. I did not elaborate earlier but the first floor is commercial rental space that is normally rented to women's boutique type stores. The second and third floor is one apartment unit. The bathroom that I asked about is all original and in the commercial unit. The building is mostly original. Thanks for your help.

Stan: it sounds gorgeous. Boy, they sure don't make them like that anymore!

Green is very institutional and I would consider it a turnoff in a bathroom, besides not being very flattering when looking in the mirror. A light yellow is good for some skin types, pinks and peaches for others. Unfortunately what makes one woman look good generally makes others look bad so you can't please everybody. For example, I look sickly with pinks or blue tones, but look much better with yellow toned paints. Since it is turn of the century you could go for it with a nice bold color like red - but you'd need to provide adequate lighting to handle the color.
