I have been remodeling a home for about 3 months. There is moisture on the ceiling of an existing bathroom-no work done here. This bathroom has not been used for 3 months so the moisture is not from steam. The bathroom is on the upper floor of a split-level home.
Our current theories are; 1) the fan is not vented to the outside creating a connection between the hot crawlspace and bathroom 2) could the fact that insulation is installed upside down, kraft paper up, cause problems. We noticed this condition when we ripped out the kitchen. 3) There is a plumbing vent in the wall that wasn’t continued to the roof and is letting moisture into the wall and ceiling cavity.
Anyone?

Both #2 and 3 would cause it and must be corrected. After the insulation is ripped out you may see additional causes.
