I have installed MDF crown moulding in most rooms and would like some ideas on what to put up in the bathrooms. Common sense tells me that I would be foolish to install MDF in the bathrooms and I would like your experiece on what to put up. I know that wood will expand and MDF will deteriorate, so would it be best not to put any up and just leave the corners square? Any suggestions out there? Thanks: John

MDF in a bathroom. If its a guest bath, WC and sink, no problem for the crown install. However if this is a full bath, how good is the ventilation? I've done a few with MDF, but made sure it was back primed, and well caulked top and bottom and superior acrylic enamel paint applied. I let the material acclimate for a few days before install, and used the length trick of +1/32 for 10 and under, or +1/16th for over 10 feet lengths. Outside miters are glued and backed with pine blocks. Inside corners are back beveled and glued, with adequate nailing into corner studs.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input. I need all the help I can get.
John,
I have installed MDF crown in both my bathrooms. be sure to chaulk along the edges, prime, and paint as usual. It's been 3 years and have not had any problems despite multiple showers per day. We do have 9ft ceilings and use the fan often.

Thanks for the reply to my question. I have found that LP makes a plastic moulding but I do not know how that looks yet. Thanks
