Hi all- In my bathroom I have glazed 1 1/4 ” octagonal tile. Both the tile and the grout are white. It is a burden to try to keep the grout clean with four kids! Is there a product or technique to change the grout to a gray color? This would make the tile stand out and easier to maintain. Thanks for any info!

you can stain grout. Go to your local tile place and ask them about products. It is tedious to do- you basically are painting all the lines. Another solution would be to get the grout really clean, then seal it. The sealer also has to be painted on the grout lines, but its lots easier to do. Then keep it up on a regular basis, at least once a year. Depending on your tile, the sealer might be able to be applied to the tile as well.
I would hesitate to tell you to stain the grout: the hex pattern tile is very busy, and does not usually look good with a darker grout- the pattern can be distracting. If you do decide to stain it, stick with a very light grey.
Clorox bleach pen is a good cheap way to get the grout clean. Who knows, your kids might think it is fun to clean the grout with a "special" pen if you make a game out of it- have them start at different ends and see who gets to the middle first.

Yep, it's done all the time and lasts for years. Scratch out all the old grout and apply new--any color you'd like.
Beer was created so carpenters wouldn't rule the world.
You can get grout colors at your local tile place. I just did my kitchen last year and I was very impressed. I would not call it a stain.......more of a paint if you ask me. Just follow directions and clean it up when ready...... it dries fast and is not easy to clean off if it dries to long. Good luck
I would think that removing the grout from 1 1/4" octagonal tile (sure it's not hexagonal?) would be a ridiculously tedious job.
Why not redo the floor and use Laticrete 'SpectraLok' grout? http://www.laticrete.com/Architects/ProductInformation/EpoxyGrout/tabid/125/Default.aspx It's nearly as impervious as the tile. You can use white and dump coffee, blueberry pie or red wine on it and just sponge it up - it's still white ;o).
