When installing a drop in style tub (no integral apron), how does one seal the connection between the short enclosure wall and the undersurface of the rim. I’m told that this cracks and leaks and needs to be redone every few months. Does the tile butt up against the undersurface and get sealed with silicone, or wrapped over the top of the rim?
Thanks,

Good questions! I avoided this type of tub just for this reason and went with the old-fashioned type with integral flanges. A fancy drop-in might be OK for a special bath-only tub or Jacuzzi, but for an every-day tub with shower, I want those flanges!

tile under the flange area then set the flange on it and seal with the best caulking you can find.
