I want to put bead board in my bathroom, up to 40 inches. I cannot afford the indiviual pieces so I was looking at the plywood faux type. The board at HD and Lowes look like crap. any ideas. or is all of it like that. We dont have a regular wood yard.

Instead of plywood bead board you could use paneling that looks like beadboard and paint it. The surface will be smoother, but the grooves will be more shallow.
The MDF beaded is the economic decent choice.

at some home centers here they have the half sheets in some form of plastic that don't look too bad... they are for wet locations... if you like white no need for paint

Here both HD and Lowes have several products.
In dividual "board". They come in both primed MDF and knotty pine. They come in 8 ft lenghts and precut lengths (36" IIRC). Part of the system is baseboard and chair rail that come with rabbits to hold the boards. But you should be able to do without those.
3/8" Plyboard. Plywood with groves molded in it.
The last is "paneling". I think that it is 1/8". It is hardboard with impressed groves. need and clean, but not very keep. But there is no T&G so that you need to be carefull putting them together.
Lowes has two versions. One is prefinished white. The other is primed for painting. I forgot which version HD has.
But each of these products are in a different section so that it is easy to find one, but not the ohters.

A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
plybead is decent stuff.
get the unpainted stuff ... usually thicker
even when it's to be painted ... I buy the "stain grade" stuff.
birch, oak ... what ever veneer they have.
the staingrade paints better ... grooves are cut cleaner and deeper ...
and doesn't have the "footballs" ... little "surface repairs" that the preprimed/paint grade stuff has.
I have the cheaper thinner stuff in my LR ... staingrade ... looks just fine with a nice install and clean paint job ... at my house ... I'm cheap too!
