I have been eyeing the beltless nail bags in my toolcrib catalog for a while now. I like the idea, but I am afraid the they are a bit bulky for everyday framing.
I am looking at the $189.00 set. Does anyone have a set? Likes/dislikes?
I do everything which is involved with framing. Including laying out top plates. So I have to bend over, squat, pack boards. Is this type of nail bag bad for certain motions?
I’m partial to my leathers, but I’m a tool freak. I have to carry everything on me at all times. I hate to have to go to the truck for tools. If I could find a good way to carry my rafter square and/or framing square I would. Anyway, my load is starting to work on my back. So, I was thinking about trying the beltless. I wish I had somewhere here in Louisiana to try it on before I shell out 189.00.
I did try suspenders, but we didn’t really get along. I still use them occasionally, but I have problems laying out with them on. Whenever I bend straight over they pull up the back of the bag to where I have to reposition it when I stand back up. I am thinking that with a beltless, the bags would get caught onto my pants belt, so they would be fine.

I tried a shoulder strap system about two years ago. I found that the amount of overhead work I had to do while framing caused excessive effort and fatigue. For example, holding up a 2X10 rafter and a nail gun high over your head and trying to get an accurate nail placement on a hot day is tough with 30 lbs of tools following each movement. I too like to have extra tools at hand. One strategy is to load my belt with only what I plan to use for the next few hours. Also, I now have one of those Stanley tool stacks that are on sale at HD for $49. I just wheel it into the area where I work and switch out special tools like nail pullers when I need them.
