I’m remodeling my bathroom and am having a tough time with wall colors. I was wondering if you could give me some advice on the better colors to use on bathroom walls.
I’m putting down very lightly colored sage 12″ floor tiles with snow white (just a hint of purple and tan) shower tiles, similar colored vanity cabinets, and a charcol laminate countertop.
I painted the ceilings Duron Scrimshaw, which is a very pale lime-white. I tried painting the walls Celedon which is an olive colored, light green in order to pick up the green in the floor tiles, but it just doesn’t look right. The green looks too yellow, and kinda “sick” for a bathroom, if you know what I mean. I don’t think the green is going to be as complimentary as I thought it was going to be.
The floor and wall tiles, and the cabinet colors are set. Any opinions on what would work better on the walls to bring out the sage green in the floor tiles?
Oh, and I’m a bachelor, so I don’t have a resident “woman’s touch”. I will probably sell the house within a year, so it’s kinda important to keep the decor tasteful but neutral.
Thanks everyone!

Do you know restoraion Hardware? They have about a dozen colors that they sell and the colors are wonderful. I don't know the quality of the paint, just get them copied at Ben Moore or whereever. I loved their Silver Sage paint.
Benjamin moore just started to sell tiny samples of their popular colors, if you have a BM store nearby. I think they have the best quality of paints. So pick up a couple and paint them on the wall. Every room is different.
Oh, one more idea, if the color is too yellow, check the light fixture in the room. Get a really good light bulb with clear clear light and you will find the paint looks quite different. Plus, you will feel better/more attractive etc and so will the people who will buy the house from you. more $$.
PS. Since it is very hard to get an idea of what your bathroom is like from a description, sorry I can't be of more help.
Thank you Mer.Maybe I should have just stuck with my original question: What are the best colors to use in bathrooms which compliment skintones (for putting on makeup), don't jolt you too much in the morning, and work well with light sage colored floors?
Try a light beige. It should look good next to the sage green, giving just enough contrast to allow the green to stand out while still remaining neutral. The added bonus is that it will interfere less with makeup application because it doesn't reflect as much color onto the makeup.
I'm just a homeowner, so take my suggestion as worth what you paid for it.
I think a peach would go with the sage and tan. I don't know what to do about the charcoal. That would suggest a cooler color to me. Anyway, peach, if kept on the light side, is fairly neutral. Then use sage towels.
Don't use fluorescent lighting in the bathroom. It's the worst room in the house to use it, almost as bad as using it in the kitchen. It distorts colors terribly and makes skin tones look unnatural.
Thanks for the ideas on the peach and beige. I picked up a few more chips this afternoon.Waynel, what didn't you like about the charcol? I haven't ordered the laminate yet and could change. They don't have a very attractive green (it's too much like a forest green). I've been looking at the Wilsonart Nebula line. Do you think a light tan would work better or have other suggestion?
It's not that I don't like it, I just can't think of a color for the walls that works with both sage and charcoal. I'm not so good with colors so I can't suggest another, although I'll say that a dark color will show waterspots and splashes of soap and such fairly easily, so it would require more frequent cleaning.
I hope someone else can help.
Oh, ye of limited color imagination! Sage and charcoal are both colors we see in the desert, and other colors pulled from the desert look good with them: tan, the red of redrock, peach, and if you are in a boring mood - even cream.
