Any opinions on what’s the best value in a dado blade set? Forrest’s “Dado King”, if it has the same quality as their saw blades, would probably be top of the line, but it’s expensive – around $265.

Forrestt dado blade is good, so is the Freud 508 and 608, I'd avoid the 208. Amana's got a pretty good one too.
I've never used one but I've read that the Infinity has a pretty good dado as well as DeWalts.

I bought the Ammana set b/c the local store was out of the Freud Super Dado set when I went looking last year.
The only complaint I have is the spot in the case where the shims are supposed to go is hard to get your hands into... Other then that they have been great, leave a flat bottom with zero tear out in everything but the cheapest plywood from HD. Only use that stuff for office shelves.

Dado isnt where you want to save a buck. A bad one is really, really bad. Tearout and all that. I've had a couple of sets but got to agree the Amana Prestige (which is different than their run of the mill set) is really good. You can get it in 24 or 48t configs for solid or ply but the 24 does nice even in ply.
I sprung for a 10" stack when I replaced my TS a few months ago and though it sounds flippin scary in there that one also cuts well and looks like its wearing boots it has so much carbide on the tips.

Go with the Forrest. It's money well spent.
You may be able to pick one up cheaper at a wood show or something. I got mine for about $180 on the last day.
Crosscut oak plywood dados without tearout. How much is that worth?

We purchased the Freud best quality, but not the one with the adjustable blade in lieu of shims. I think it is the 508. What a difference. No slinters, flat bottom, and we need to change the shimming with the change of weather, as we used so close a tolorance. As usual, you quite often get what you pay for.
