We are doing a major remodel and will be putting in a number of new windows. our current windows that we are not replacing are wood Hurd windows so we need to keep the style of the new ones somewhat consistent, but want to buy the best window we can afford. Our contractor said he uses Pella, but we would like some other opinions. We are in Colorado where it can get pretty cold, is very dry and very windy. Any comments out there?

I'd take Hurd or Marvin over Pella. On my last two jos - historical, the marvins and Pellas came in within spitting distance of each other on price, but using pella on the firtst , and Masrvin on the next, the Pella isn't evern in the same league, tho it appears to be at first blush.
But for your "best quality possible' look for a custom shop with at least a fifteen year track record, like Zeluck

It's good to look at other options. There is a great spectrum in the window world, in cost, and quality, and there isn't a direct correlation between the two. In my opinion, Marvin Integrity is five times the window that a Pella is for a couple percent more in material cost. The higher end of the Andersens I like. Kolbe and Kolbe makes some excellent windows. Where I'm at, they're darn pricy too, but that could vary from one seller to the next. I've not seen a Pella house yet that didn't have window problems that originated at the manufacturer. Sorry, but I think they do a pretty lousy job as a company at producing anything I'd want my name on. If they diverted that great big advertising budget to making windows, they might get there.

Check out Norco windows if they're available in your area. Used them a couple of times , dh and casement. Comparable to Marvin or better, and better price, better look in divided lites. Bruce
One vote for Loewen....and another vote to be very careful of Pella. When I was manufacturing interior shutters, most of the horror stories we saw were pella.Cabinetmaker/college woodworking instructor. Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
I've used a few Norcos and liked them, but I thought they only had AL clad, not wood
