I apologize if this is a simple question.
I’m currently building my brick home and need to put blocking between the top soldier brick and the rafter beams so I can attach my exterior dentil trim to something. The space is about 4 1/2 by 4 1/2 inches. I was going to take two 2 by 4s and attach the first one to the sheathing of the house and the second one to the other 2×4. Is it this simple or am I missing something? Some people have talked about using special nails and foam. Is this true? Does anybody have any advice on how to go about putting this blocking up? Thanks.

I think it's that simple, but, I've never done it. So possibly I'm missing something. I'd try to attach it to the studs or wall plates as well if possible.

*This is usually done by the framer as part of the cornice. It's called a brick frieze (sp?).Are you building this yourself and/or acting as your own general contractor?Ed. Williams
