Hi all,
I have some blue board that I’m finally getting around to using and it’s been stored for 2+ years with minimal sunlight. That being said, I am worried that some of the blue board could have UV damage which could impact the ability of the plaster to adhere properly. I thought I had heard about a product that you apply to the blue board to address this issue, but I haven’t had any luck finding any information. Your suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

I've waited years before putting plaster on grayed-out Imperial blue board - no problems after fifteen years or so.

far as i know , the color has nothing to do with the performance of the plaster
AFAIK.... it's just so you can tell that it is different from drywall gypsum
ie: don't worry about it
I'm a newbie at Blue Board, but I just read the USG
install. page. It say's if it's faded or discolored to prime it.
I my self have no experience with it.
<far as i know , the color has nothing to do with the performance of the plaster>Maybe I'm misunderstanding your reply, but the paper on the blue board is different..the paper is treated to absorb more water and hold up to the plastering. Does excess UV's degrade that treatment? maybe notIn my area blue board was hard to come by so my plasterer, and others in this area, used standard drywall turned backwards. Some of those jobs were done at least 15 years ago and have not failed, so I suspect his bluebd is fine...but like I told him if he's really concerned the plaster-weld is cheap insurance

you're right.... it is treated differently so it will not absorb the water out of the plaster faster than the heat of hydration can make the plaster start to set
regular drywall board will suck the water out faster than "blueboard "... it's got blue dye so everyone can tell the difference between the two
don't know if the color fade also indicates the absorption rate has changed... if you want to be careful, follow the usg guidelines
me, i'd just plaster itMike Hussein Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
<me, i'd just plaster it>at the price you pay in your area, it would be much cheaper to have your plasterer do it.I know, I know :)

we'd tape it....
but the only plastering i've done was on my train room.... it was fun... but you're right..... last job ....even though it was a 2d floor & cathedral ceiling..
it was still only $1.85 : board, plaster & laborMike Hussein Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
1.85? you've gone up a little or we're coming downWe are paying about 2.50 for plasterdrywall is going for a dollar per bd ft for the most part. One of the bigger drywall companies was down to 79 cents for a while. probably trying to whittle the competition down.I would use veneer plaster on most every job if I could. faster and cleaner for remodeling

we do... we only tape if it's like one or two sheets
otherwise, it's all skim-coat plasterMike Hussein Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
