I’m installing a glass pocket door. Glass finally came in. 13mm with 5 8″ cutouts that we’ll fill with curly maple panels. The shop that made the door didn’t have the machining to carve hand holds in the glass, first problem.
I’m worried about the leading edge of the glass getting dinged and doing the tempered glass boogie. So I’m saying that when the door is open, I want the glass all the way in the pocket, and then some.
Home owners want me to carve something out of the pocket so they can grab the glass, but that doesn’t help much when the door is closed. Sounds like a smudgy mess to me.
There’s some straight 1x rosewood on the job, the floors are rosewood…so I’m thinking of ripping a piece that’s wider than the pocket, rabbeting down the middle to tightly fit the glass, then beveling the edges to make a bit grippage.
I’m lost on the adhesiving it the door part. If can make a bump that keeps the door from slamming into the pocket jambs, there shouldn’t be much withdrawal shock…but I want something that will keep the edge put, won’t make an installation mess, and won’t be visible through the glass. Not asking much, huh?
Silicone, epoxy, double sided ice and water shield?… and, does anyone know how stuff sticks to rosewood?
Someone’s got it in for me, they’re planting stories in the press Whoever it is I wish they’d cut it out but when they will I can only guess. They say I shot a man named Gray and took his wife to Italy, She inherited a million bucks and when she died it came to me. I can’t help it if I’m lucky.

that looks heavy - and like a days work - how about I come visit and watch someone else saw it? I can offer helpful suggestions -
sounds like you're on an interesting job - what kind of hardware does it take to roll a sheet of glass?
"there's enough for everyone"
David, Barry from here turned me on to some Haefel stuff, HAWA jr. very nice...actually the glass is 10mm...not too heavy...at least I hope it's not too heavy for the clamping system...dunno, never done this<G> Intersting job, ya, we're also making two litter box coffins...the glass door is so two waring cat families can look at each other, but not touch...I get all the good stuff<G>Too bad about the sawmill...I'll bet Duane has a pitsaw<G> Someone's got it in for me, they're planting stories in the press

gawd - couldn't you have made up a better story so as to impress us? and you're worrying about 'a smudgy mess'? or is this the dairy business? <g>
oh well -
what's the story on the logs? (now, think about this - don't disappoint me again) tell me they belong to a rich eccentric who wants them sawed by an eccentric artisian from out of state and doesn't care about how much it costs - tell me he'll pay my way, put me up (maybe a beautiful daughter? nympho?) and send me on my way with enough $ I can take next year off -
or something like that -
"there's enough for everyone"
You'd know how to take a year off? PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!
You'd know how to take a year off?
well, it'd be a novel problem....
I've been thinking on it a bit this afternoon - if there wasn't any $ pressure, I'd do a sabbatical sort of thing - pay a couple of good men to cover for me in the orchard while I do some long put off travel, education, and art -
but I'd wager you have a similar problem as I - a lot of my equipment is, ah, quirky - - others who are not tuned in would almost certainly have problems - -
really - thanks for the question - my youngest is now a junior in college - it's time to think seriously on what I want to get done yet - I'm doing well, and might for some time yet, but caring for my 91 yo father has really rubbed my nose in my/our mortality -

Financial freedom everybody desires.
You're nearly free from dependents, time to decide what you want to do with the rest of your life. Not a simple question.
I've arranged my life such that I really can disappear indefinitely, return to near normalcy. We've done some travelling, enjoyed it fully. Last winter, with passports and resources, couldn't decide where to go. Stayed home. Friends had offered a Paris apartment. Not exactly uncomfortable here.
My machinery is indeed quirky. Currently have 3 tractors, a large truck, and a crane badly needing attention. 2 should be resolved this week, until next time. But my plan is zero required maintenance, meaning I have no need of a couple of good men to cover for me. Overhead I minimize. Not exactly something an orchardist can do.
I see vans full of hispanics going down my road. Employer has perhaps a thousand acres of trees. Better him than me. But I have no family legacy.
My mother's 96 this year. I drive her to her Michigan residence (from Va winter home) every June. The changes aren't encouraging. Best to get on with whatever you want to do. PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!
If that'll get you here, ha,ha,ha!Nah, they were cut off the lot I'm building on...thought they'd make some cool newels, it's a "green" community<G>... got some white oak I've gotta get milled for porch posts, too... you're just not thinking of all the hickory smoking you could do with all the slabs. Yuuuuummm, bbq'ed peaches<G>Hey, how's this years crop? Gotta be close? Someone's got it in for me, they're planting stories in the press

actually, that hickory would make several excellent floors if someone would want to take the care and effort to make it happen -
I can help you find a sawyer in your area - there's just no reasonable way to pencil out dragging my mill that far for that pile - tho it might be tempting this winter - you've got to be milder than us -
fruit season is upon me, even tho I'm not fired up - we picked the first apples friday, and all the redhaven peaches - sold them at markets on saturday - I am loved...
but it's about a 10% peach crop this year - several different situations compromised the crop down to slightly above nuisance level - I've spent the last week hiding from the telephone as a hundred people try to get in line - gotta decide whether to cheat and buy some out of michigan to ease me thru the month - they just aren't the same...
oh well, gotta do it with the apples this year - and they do generally look good -

I think I am finally finished with this danged door. We put this custom copper pull on last week. Seems like the Lexcel held everything together, including the pull.
We had to put rare earth magnets at the bottom of every pocket door, cause the cats could paw them open.We also had to magnets on the shoe cubby cabinet doors we just installed so the cats wouldn't eat the mistress's shoelaces.
The baddest cat made a jailbreak when I went to take the pics. The other cats really hate me now.
We'll have a kid
Or maybe we'll rent one
