Hi everyone,
I was just thinking of the new home we just ordered/had delivered (sorry, guys…modular), we ordered all doors and entries to be able to fit wheelchairs, should the need ever arise. The wife and I do have some health issues which had me thinking about this topic. I figured it would be less expensive and easier in initial build stage.
With all the “boomers” getting ready to retire, building/buying/remodeling homes, are people even considering this type of thing, accessability? If you can get people to admit they are even aging. Is there much call for this type of accomodation yet?
How do you market such things to such target groups without “offending” some? As individual business people there must be a potential business bump in this type of work just around the corner. Just wondering out loud, so to speak.
I’m thinking of heavy duty grab bars in bathrooms, some counter areas that can be retro-fitted lower if needed, door/cabinet hardware that is stylish yet easy for the arthritic, easy access tubs/showers. I know the products are out there, but is anyone gearing up for it in newer designs? It would be easier than selling/moving for many in the future.
We are all going to get there someday, aren’t we. Hmmmmmm…..

Yeah, when I started my GC business in 1999, this was my niche. I do some, have good word-of-mouth, but have become a generalist because I've been lucky enough to have a variety of interesting work.
While I still think "accessability" is the best field, I would rather specialize in a geographic area (within 12 miles of my house) than anything else!
