borrowed pressure washer question.. ohoh
My friend volunteered his home despot special “excell 2300 psi” power washer for me to use at my MIL, way more work than I expected, and after about 8 hours of use, the motor changes pitch, and there is a loose metal noise coming from the bottom of the unit and there is a sudden pressure drop. I think I blew a seal, has anyone had any experience replacing the seals and is it an easy job, or should I just drop it at the repair shop…. I will be giving it back in as good an order as is possible for that POS!
I did then have to rent one of these

and it was so much better… it was way quiet, used less gas, and stripped more gunk…. I may offer to give my friend cash for his, and encourage him to pick the one I used instead

is it the motor or the pump making noise,it might be hard to tell since the pump probably is direct drive off the motor.i'd look at the oil and see if any metal shavings are floating around,or mybe just remove pump and start motor up and make sure it runs ok. if so your probably up for a pump. check ebay for a rebuilt pump and just bolt it on. i have a old mt washer, belt drive it just keeps spraying but it sure pulls hard on starts [10hp] and i'm getting to old for that . next one will have a electric start! don't you love borrowing things, now you'll end up with almost as much money fixing his as you could own one for-that was always my luck. good luck larry
hand me the chainsaw, i need to trim the casing just a hair.
i just took a quick look at ebay- a excell 2500 new was 199. rebuild kit 90.i'd just buy a new one and sell the 6 horse mtr to someone for there mower. larry

yeah, I am regretting borrowing it, especially after finding out how much better and more powerfull the rental unit was.... all the noise is coming from the pump area encased in stamped steel.... I am hoping it is under 1 year old, and home despot will eat the repair.
More on this later
it gets worse.... after much badgering, I discover the pump had an expected life of 250-300 hours, and I was at about 265 hours.... replacement part is 175.... friend is being a very good sport though.... volunteered to split cost of repair.
i know this is no consulation , but 250 hrs on a pump like that is really pretty good, thats a lot of water pumping. approx 12,500 gals! i do good if a small gas motor would run 250 hrs. i guess return at hd didn't work out, anyway good luck larryhand me the chainsaw, i need to trim the casing just a hair.
