I know this has been a hot topic on here, but I’ve been gone for a while, and need a jigsaw of good caliber. I hope I don’t bother anyone with redundancy or bad spelling, but I was looking at the old Bosch barrel grip jigsaw and I heard they put out a new barrel grip. Is it worth the extra money to get the new one? I hope to find somebody that have used both barrel grip models to give me good advise.

don't know about the barrel grip but I know they are the same guts as the top handle, and I have had the 1587 for several years now and if and I do mean IF it ever dies I will get the newer version if for the toolless foot alone not to mention the blade guides for truer cuts. I do a lot of bevels and these two upgrades would help me. As for the time being I just stick to sharp blade and a little patience. Hope this helps. MIke
Got the newer top handle and its awesome. The blade ejection and toolless baseplate adjustment are worth the price of admision. BTW the one thing the barrel grip dosent have is a variable speed triger, something I find useful.
If you ever want the collins coping foot, the newer bosch doesn't accept it. Someone here or on JLC said collins doesn't think they will make a coping foot to fit the new bosch. Otherwise, the posters and reviews I have seen seem to like both models. Just an FYI.
I have the barrel grip but I wish I had the one with the handle. With the barrel grip, the off/on switch is awkward, expecially when things go wrong and you want to stop cutting fast!
