Brian, I heard you talk before that you disliked the bosch worm drive direct connect saw. I understand the main drawback is you cut the cord and it’s now an extension cord you’ve ruined instaed of the tool cord. However i’m looking @ a recon to set up w/a 10 1/4″ big foot adapter like i mentioned last evening. So, the saw will only be used once in a while. I figure it will be easier to store w/out the cord. Just want to know that it’s a good saw in general. Thanks again

Since you asked....... :)
I've actually got three main beefs with the DirectConnect system. The first is the cord cutting that you mention. The other is that many replacement extension cord ends won't fit in the reciever. And sooner or later all my cords end up with a replacement plug.
My third beef is that everyone gets lazy with the system and just plugs the cord into the connector rather than looping it and catching the hook like you're supposed to. What ends up happening is that inevitably someone will grab the saw by the cord and it will disconnect and take a bounce. Also, not looping the cord through and catching the hook seemed to put a lot of stress on the plugs and I found myself replacing plug ends more frequently...... which ends up bringing me right back to problem number two.
But despite all that, it sounds like it might work out just fine with what you intend to do with it. A 12ga cord hooked up properly with a factory end on it won't give you any grief at all. We just can't seem to grasp the concept over here or something. :)
FWIW, I think the Bosch wormdrive is an excellent saw. If you like the feel of a 77 or a Mag77 then you'll love it because it's basically the same saw with a stronger motor, a rafter hook, and a better (magnesium) table.
Diesel,
Just wondering if you have opinion towards the twist lock direct connect according to reviews you can lower it down from scaffolding by the cord (not that i recommend it) Just looking at getting the bosch to start my build up of tools and see that there's a pretty good deal on the twist lock right now if it's all it's cracked up to be.
now i suppose i need to break the addiction and go out and do some siding, only about half way done with my garage and i've been doing it all summer. Tis starting to cool off up here in the great white north.

I really don't know much about it Ian. I've never really used the twist lock stuff at all. I'd bet it's a bit better than the directconnect with regular cords though. In all fairness, the direct connect is probably a pretty good system if the tools aren't used in as abusive an environment as a framing crew.
Or maybe it's just my crew?!?! I dunno. All in all, I think my guys are pretty good with our stuff, but for whatever reason that system just didn't work well for me.View Image
