I am planning on boxing in a pair of round columns in the entrance to my dining room to make them square (will better match style of house). Any tips on how to get that started or does anybody know of a good website or other reference.

The best route is to post some pics - then stand back and let the pundits have their say. Otherwise it becomes an exercise in "20 Questions", trying to figure out exactly what you've got before anyone can even think about how best to modify.
