Here are pictures of the room in which I had such trouble with red paint. I had to go buy a disposable camera and then have the pictures digitized on a disc. So, I treid but did not succeed in keeping the room clean, and I also had a very limited focal range. The room is very small, and pictures could only be taken from the hall door or the closet door.
The boy (10 years) wanted his room to be red and gold. I hedged and went with red and white with gold, but a series of fortuitous accidents made the room red white and blue with gold. A back-ordered inflatable chair was replaced with similar stock in blue and I discovered when I opened the boxes that we had bought the IKEA Robin blue bed-loft, not the red one. The boy likes the RWBG very much. I hope that you can get an idea of how the loft opens the room up; I’m afraid the pictures don’t show that. The room is so small that a twin bed dominates it, but this loft creates an “office” with almost 6 feet of head space. The ceiling is only 71/2 feet at the red wall, but slopes up to 10 feet, making it possible for the boy to sit up in bed without knocking himself silly.
The chest of drawers is the only old piece. The rugs, loft, desk, and book shelves are from Ikea, but I spray-painted the bookshelves gold at the boy’s request. Gold mini-blinds on the 70-inch-wide window don’t show in the photo. Light rope circles the room at the edges of the ceiling, and is controlled by a light switch by the door. Also not showing, the closet has been converted to all shelf space with clear plastic tote boxes in several sizes to hold toys, card collections, etc. My children own way too much “etc.” Total cost of the room was about $600.00

I like it. Thanks for sharing the pix. I am having a little trouble spotting the gold though.
In the second picture you can see the tall bookshelf in the corner. In the picture the gold doesn't really stand out. I am so not a photo person. But if you look carefully you may be able to see that it has a reflective surface... Maybe if you squint?
Should I paint the chest of drawers gold too?
Very nice. Yes, paint the chest of drawers gold.AnnL; MotherHen/Hobby Farmer
Tish,
This looks wonderful. Thanks for sharing the pics. You did a great job! I know your son is thrilled. It is really cool.
I had a loft bed like that in college one year and absolutely loved it. I hope he will too.
