I am looking for any info on a compound used for breaking rock or ledge. I seem to remember that you drill holes, pour this mixture in, let set and it would expand to the point of cracking apart the stone. If I’m not mistaken, I read about it in FH but I can’t find it (haven’t looked all that hard either, I figured one of you would know off the top of your head). Thanks.

See post 87869.4 not chemical spliting but works well.
Yeah, you drill holes, pour water in, and wait for it to freeze.
I guess it wasn't FH then, and maybe it was for concrete breaking, but I DO remember it. Yeah, we can freeze water here in Maine too! Also, how do I get to post 87869.4?

Click on advanced search, then scroll down to find that box.
I remember the article you're talking about. Can't remember the product though.

In my end of the world it's called water and sub zero temperatures.
sorry man , couldn't resist.
Tom - this http://demolitiontechnologies.com/ (Bustar or Bristar) is what you want to use. I have significant personal experience with it.
They'll help you with the type of rock, the hole pattern, etc.
Another reasonably-priced path to consider is this one - http://www.micro-blaster.com/
Good luck!
