Looking for advice on easiest, least back-breaking way to open a doorway in a fieldstone foundation.
Currently in the process of adding a room with full basement to back of house and old foundation wall will now be inside wall of new basement.
I want to have access between old and new basements so need to bust open a doorway.

Have you already excavated and exposed the wall?? How big are the stones?? You want to use what was the outside of the stone as an exposed wall 'cause you like the look??
Usually the problem isn't making the doorway, it is usually the whole wall wants to come down pretty much by itself. If you have any doubts, install some shoring posts under the floor of the house in case she "gives way". You can usually take apart an old fieldstone foundation with a 2 lb hammer and chisel. If the stones are big and you want them out it will be easier before you frame the addition.
Might be a good time to meet a mason if you don't already know one.
